Colin Lindsay B.V.M&S MRCVS
Colin graduated from Edinburgh University Veterinary School
in July 1989 with the medal in surgery. After a short spell in
Cornwall, Devon and overseas Colin arrived in Brampton on the 18th
February 1991. He became a partner in 1994 and then sole Director
in 2001.
"I find traditional mixed veterinary practice a real challenge. The rate of progression of veterinary medicine is increasing all the time. It takes a lot of hard work and what can seem to be an uphill struggle to keep up to date with these new developments. However one of the most satisfying aspects of my chosen career is to implement these new techniques and see for myself the improved results and benefits which can be acheived."
Colin married his colleague from University, Barbara, in 2000 and both Colin and Barbara live and work in Brampton with their pet labrador Dougal.
Barbara Lindsay B.V.M&S MRCVS
Barbara graduated from Edinburgh University in July 1989
having being awarded the Veterinary Medicine Prize. She has spent
the subsequent years in companion animal practice in various parts
of Britain; from Plymouth via Liverpool to Newcastle and finally
Carlisle. In December 2001 she joined Colin at Capontree Veterinary
Centre as small animal clinician and in 2006 became a Director.
"I enjoy all areas of small animal practice but my main areas of interest are internal medicine, oncology and soft tissue surgery."
Barbara's hobbies include horse riding, skiing and hill
walking with Dougal the family labrador.
Kevin Beattie B.V.M.S MRCVS
Kevin originated from a dairy farm located an hour away in
Lockerbie. He has been with the practice since the foot and
mouth outbreak and became a Director in 2006.
"I am a mixed Vet and enjoy both farm, equine and small animal emergency work. I now carry out a lot of farm advisory work as well as routine health and fertility visits. I was awarded the ECVS Certificate in Cattle Health and Production in 2005.
In my spare time I enjoy working on my family farm with my own small suckler herd of cows and walking with my Jack Russel Terrier, Chloe. "
Helen Brannan B.V.M&S MRCVS
I qualified from Edinburgh Vet School in 2001.
After graduation I worked in mixed practice in Richmond, North Yorkshire for two years followed by a short spell in the Peak District before starting work in Brampton in November 2003.
I enjoy the variety of work and characters that mixed practice provides, finding surgery particularly interesting.
Spare time is taken up with horse riding, swimming, hill walking
and trying to tire out an over enthusiastic pet spaniel
"Olive".
Andrew Reid
I was born and bred in Ayrshire on a dairy farm and spent
much of my spare time in the Young Farmers - taking part in
competitions at both local and national levels. In 2000 I graduated
from Glasgow University, before going to work in a mixed practice
in Dumfries and Galloway.
After a couple of years there I felt it was time to see a bit of the world and travelled extensively throughout Africa where I was able to combine two of my passions of animals and photography while on safari. I returned to the UK for a few months working in the South East of England before going on to Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. I worked for two different practices in Australia - a small animal practice in South Australia and a mixed practice in Victoria.
While I enjoyed myself thoroughly while out there I felt that I
wanted to be slightly nearer to home and family so I returned to
the UK and started work with Capontree in October 2004. I have a
Border Terrier named Corrie who can generally be seen with me as I
travel around doing my calls.
Emma McManus BVM&S MRCVS
I graduated from Edinburgh in 2004 and have been working at
Longtown for the past two years. I greatly enjoy all aspects
of mixed practice but have a particular bias to farm practice and
an increasing interest in equine work.
I spend my weekends walking with my dog 'Slipper'
whos' well known at the Longtown surgery, and riding my horse
'Sorrel'.
Mark Bingham
Originally from a small village in south Lincolnshire, I
graduated from Edinburgh Vet School in 2005 and started work in a
predominantly small animal practice in Darlington. I have
always been attracted to the variety of a mixture of large and
companion animal work. I moved to Capontree to enjoy
all the challenges of this type of work, and to benefit from the
support of highly knowledegable staff in both sides of the
practice.
In my spare time I enjoy playing hockey and taking part in any other sports I get the oppotunity to.
Fiona Cox
I qualified from Liverpool Veterinary School in 1981 and
initially worked on the Wirral and in Liverpool before moving
around the North following my husbands work to Glasgow, Gateshead
and finally settling in the Carlisle area. I gained the
Diploma in Veterinary Radiology in 1985.
I am married to a Doctor and we have two teenagers. We have three cats, one nutty dog and two ponies who are getting on in years.
Jayne Orr
I graduated in July 2005 from Glasgow University.
I have been working with Capontree Vets since then and have
throughly enjoyed the challenges that mixed practice
provides. I was brought up on the family beef / arable farm
so I have a keen interest in large animal practice. I do
however still maintain enthusiasm for small animal work.
In my spare time I enjoy socialising with friends and family, skiing in winter, walking and running in the summer and travelling.
Alistair Moir
Alistair graduated from Edinburgh University in 2000 and
started work at Longtown Vets after a brief period 'on
loan' to DEFRA during foot and mouth, he returned to Brampton
Practice and has been there ever since.
"I enjoy all aspects of mixed practice and have a special interest in small animal surgery.
In my spare time I enjoy films and live music. I also ride
and maintain my own motorcycles and often head up north on weekend
camping runs".
David McCrea BVM&S MRCVS
I qualified from Edinburgh University in July 1998.
Following this I worked in Dumfries and Galloway in a mixed
practice for two years. I then spent six months in Australia
working with Koala's, Kangaroos and Alpacas.
I worked in Northern Ireland where I gained experience and a huge interest in resolving Herd Health and Fertility problems, after all ' a Healthy Cow is a Wealthy Cow !'. I stayed there for five years, during which time I married my wife Rachel who is from Dumfries and we have two children.
We decided to relocate our lives to beautiful Cumbria, where the
people are friendly, and the countryside is as picturesque as
anywhere I have been in the world. I am looking forward to
building up a great working relationship with all of
Capontree's clients.
